Day 5: Tammy drove. We drove through Tongariro National Park, weaving around massive volcanoes.
The parks of New Zealand are many miles in diameter, and usually unpopulated. We lunched at a small town there called Whakapapa (the "Wh" is pronounced "f". Try saying that with a straight face). Unfortunately, the weather wouldn't allow us to ski there, and since the southern hemisphere was entering spring, it got warmer each day, so we never got the chance to ski New Zealand. Have to go back...
Update: Shortly after we were there, Mount Ruapehu blew up, so we won't be skiing on it any time soon. |
Of course, the springtime had other advantages, like - Baby Sheep! The cutest things you've ever seen. Tammy will never eat lamb again. We then drove off to the country's capital city, Wellington, at the bottom of the North Island of New Zealand. We stayed at a beautiful B&B on a hilltop, overlooking the city and the Tasman Sea.
The B&B owner's cat got loose, so all night long we heard him yell "Here, Moogy, Moogy, Moogy!" As they say: The cat came back the very next day.
