Day 6: We dropped off the rental ("Oh yes, the car's fine") & took a ferry over to the South Island, where we picked up another car & drove along some extremely scenic and curvy cliff roads to Nelson. A bartender at a pub there asked us if we were Canadian, explaining how he was once attacked by a band of Canadian tourists who took great offense at being called Americans. We found out the same thing will happen if you confuse a New Zealander with an Australian. The New Zealanders prefer to be called "Kiwis". Honestly.
We pitched our tent at a campground next to a camper that had an electric organ in his trailer. All night long we were treated to the organ version of "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." |
