Day 7: We drove further south down the west coast. The population is so low that no one minds the fact that all the bridges are only one lane wide. At one point, we drove over a bridge with train tracks. We had to hope no cars were coming, AND hope no train was near, either.
Just as we got off the bridge, we heard the train whistle approaching. Whew. But no matter what situation you're in, the Kiwis have a phrase: "No worries!" |
We got to Franz Joseph Glacier. A real Glacier! We
excitedly camped out & scheduled a trip for a helicopter ride over the glacier in the
morning. Since New Zealand is a colony of the British Empire, we were getting a little
tired of eating Fish 'n' Chips & minced-meat pie (They also have excellent lamb, but,
well, they're soooo cute). Luckily, we found a pizza place that made even us Chicagoans
proud.
